Pacers Beat Ferrum in 10 Innings

HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. -- Ferrum College's baseball team fell 1-0 in 10 innings to William Peace University Friday, March 9, at Ting Stadium. The Pacers survived a pitching dual and scored a run in the bottom of the 10th frame to take the first of three games in the USA South Athletic Conference series.

THE BASICS
Starter Derek Jackson held Ferrum's bats at bay, allowing no hits through nine innings. The Panthers got a base hit each from Tim Ortega and Garrett Dorton to open the 10th, but William Peace's Ben Brann shut it down by striking out the next three batters. WPU's Justin Torres led off the bottom of the 10th with a walk, then stole second. Ferrum intentionally walked two hitters to load the bases with one out, and the game ended when Kyle Cranmer was hit by a pitch. Starter Jacob Holland pitched seven innings for the Panthers, allowing five hits with no runs or walks, with eight strikeouts.

SERIES CONTINUES
Coach Ryan Brittle's team is scheduled to play a doubleheader today against William Peace to close out the league series, beginning at 4:00 p.m. at Ting Stadium.
