FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College picked up a non-conference doubleheader softball sweep over Roanoke College tonight at home, taking the opener 5-4 in eight innings, then holding on for a 3-2 win in the nightcap.

THE BASICS
Lois Carpenter went 3-4 in the opener with a run and an RBI, then had a two-run homer in the second game to help the Panthers complete the non-conference sweep. Ashton Lambeth (2-2) pitched 2.2 innings in relief to get the game one win, allowing two hits and no runs or walks. Courtney Rudd (6-0) tossed a complete game two-hitter with 11 strikeouts in the nightcap to stay perfect on the mound this season, while Cheyenne Strickland went 3-3 with a double, a run and an RBI. Katie Smith went 3-4 at the plate for the Maroons in game one.

NEXT GAME
Ferrum is scheduled to play a pair of USA South doubleheaders at home Saturday and Sunday, March 10-11. The Panthers host Averett University Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and Greensboro College Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
