Hornets Spoil Ferrum Senior Day with ODAC Baseball Sweep

FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College lost a pair of baseball games this afternoon at home to reigning Old Dominion Athletic Conference champion Shenandoah University, dropping the opener 2-1 and the nightcap 8-6 at Panther Field.

SENIOR DAY
Prior to the game, the Panthers honored graduating seniors Nathaniel Anthony, Noah Collins, Jake Martin, Joey Pride, Brandon Roberts and Braxton Wheeler with a brief Senior Day' 19 ceremony.

THE BASICS
Shenandoah scored a run in the first inning of game one, then added a run in the fifth. Ferrum made it a 2-1 game in the eighth inning when Grey Sherfey singled, advanced to third on Connor Dopp's single and scored on Anthony's ground out. Starter Robert Klinchock struck out nine Ferrum batters to get the win.

In the nightcap, Shenandoah opened a 2-0 lead after an inning, but Ferrum struck for two in the second, one on Christian Campbell's sac fly and one on Sherfey's RBI single. Tim Ortega's RBI single in the third drove in a run and the Panthers led 3-2. Luke Nussman's two-run homer in the fifth inning put the Hornets back out in front 4-3, then Dopp's RBI double to left center in the sixth tied the game at 4-4.

Shenandoah scored two more runs in the seventh inning, but Ferrum got a run in seventh on Kyle Anstice's solo homer to left field and one in the eighth when Drew Calohan scored on an error to tie the game at 6-6. Keegan's Woolford's two-run homer to right field in the ninth inning was the difference as the Hornets completed the ODAC sweep.
