Box Score 2 HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Virginia -- The Ferrum College baseball team split an Old Dominion Athletic Conference two-game series with Hampden-Sydney College, taking game one 5-2 and falling in the nightcap 7-5.

GAME 1
Ozzie Torres got things started for the Panthers as he brought Darden Eure-Parrish around to score on a single into left field in the visiting-half of the 3rd inning. Ferrum would then double their advantage on a double steal attempt, as Torres would be thrown out at 2nd but Eure-Parrish would score on the play.
Trey Karnes got the Tigers on the board in the 6th with a double down the left field line, scoring Ryan Boyce and cutting the Panther advantage in half.
The Panthers would then answer right back, getting three runs in the top of the 8th frame. Rufus Hurdle doubled to left field, scoring Josh Greenway, and then a throwing error would allow Hurdle and Matt Yarbrough to come across and make it a 5-1 game. Hampden-Sydney would get one back in the bottom of the 9th off of a sacrifice fly, but Ethan Westgate would shut the door on the Tigers and earn his first save of the season. Will Davis (1-1) got the win on the mount for the Panthers, tossing seven innings while giving up just one earned on six hits and five fanned.
GAME TWO
The Panthers jumped out to the early lead, as Matt Yarbrough homered to left field to spark the Ferrum offense. Clayton Michael picked up two RBI on a single to left field and Torres answered with a two-RBI single of his own and the Panthers would take a 5-0 lead through an inning and a half.
Hampden-Sydney would then answer the call, scoring seven unanswered runs the rest of the way to split the day. Karnes was key in the offensive explosion, leaving the yard in the second, plating a run in the fifth, and scoring a run in the same inning. Nic Graziano (2-1) picked up the win for the Tigers, turning in five complete with five earned on six hits and five strikeouts.
UP NEXT
Coach Brittle's team will be back in action Tuesday, March 16 at Panther Field to take on the Cougars of Averett University. The non-conference matchup is set for a 3 p.m. first pitch.
