THE BASICS
Jenna Whitener put Virginia Wesleyan up 1-0 with goal at the 5:44 mark of the first half off a pass from Jaiden Shaw.
The Panther defense played solid the remainder of the first half, thwarting a number of Marlin scoring opportunities, and the lead was 1-0 at the break.
The Marlins got an insurance goal from Ryan Westpfahl at 29:37 of the second half off a pass from Julie Fassi.
Shanon Proa posted three shots for Ferrum, while Tatianna Roberts had two. Virginia Wesleyan outshot Ferrum 22-5, and closed the game with a 5-0 advantage in penalty corners.
