FERRUM, Virginia -- The Ferrum College baseball team topped the Guilford College Quakers in a mid-week Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest, 17-10 at Panther Field.

THE BASICS
Ozzie Torres got things started early for the Panthers as his solo shot to left field put Ferrum up 1-0 in the first frame. Guilford would answer right back in the second with a four spot. Ryan Croom singled to left field, scoring Ty Clark, and an Austin Bailey double down the right field line would plate three to cap off the inning. The Quakers would get two more in the third as Isaiah Hairston and Chase Wade scored off of Panther miscues to make it 6-1 through three complete.
The fourth frame saw Guilford scratch one across in their half, but the Panthers would answer with five of their own. Matt Yarbrough sparked the Panther rally with a single to left field scoring Grayson Chitwood and Josh Greenway. Tyson Measamer would later score Yarbrough with a single up the middle. Clayton Michael had a RBI double and Justin Brady a RBI single to bring the deficit to just 7-6. The fifth inning would be where Ferrum would take control. Chitwood's base runnning would steal a run for the Panthers before Michael and Brady picked up RBI hits for the second inning in a row. Torres' triple highlighted the inning as it was good for two runs and the Panther lead grew to 11-7.
The Quakers tried their hand at a late rally as Wade's triple to right center scored Clark, but Ferrum would answer right back with three more in the home half of the frame to put things out of reach. Yarbrough would come up big again as he left the yard with a two-run shot to left field to take the momentum back. The eighth inning was a busy one for the Panthers as well as they picked up three more. Guilford grabbed two int he ninth, but Austin Vernon would record the final out in his second inning of relief to shut the door.
