ASHLAND, Virginia -- Ferrum College split an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) baseball doubleheader with #17 Randolph-Macon College Friday, April 30. The Panthers took the opener 11-8, then fell 12-2 in the nightcap at R-MC's Estes Park.

GAME 1
Matt Yarbrough's three-run homer in the top of the first inning gave the Panthers the early lead. Randolph-Macon answered with four runs in the fourth inning and two in the fifth to go out in front 6-3.

Josh Greenway's RBI triple to right center in the seventh inning drove in a run, as did Grayson Chitwood's groundout to shortstop, and the R-MC lead was down to 6-5. The Yellow Jackets struck back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame to extend the lead to 8-5.

Ferrum exploded for six runs in the eighth inning. Justin Brady's sent a three-run shot over the right field fence, Greenway drove an two-RBI single up the middle and Chitwood had an RBI single up the middle.

Starter Will Davis was solid through five full innings, allowing eight hits, five earned runs and three walks, while striking out eight batters. Austin Vernon (W, 1-0) collected the win after pitching the final two and a third innings and allowing two hits, no runs or walks with one strikeout. Ozzie Torres went 3-5 with a double, two runs and a walk.

GAME 2
In the nightcap, Randolph-Macon opened a 6-0 lead after three innings, then extended the lead to 12-0 after six full frames to blow it open. Greenway was the lone bright spot for Ferrum, going 2-4 with a two-run shot to left field in the top of the seventh inning. The game was halted in the seventh inning.

Starter Dustin Boothe (L, 1-6) was saddled with the loss after pitching the opening two and two third innings and allowing two hits, five earned runs and four walks with two strikeouts.

Greenway closed the day going 4-8 with a home run, a triple, four runs and five RBI. Torres combined to go 4-9 at the plate with a double and three runs.

REGULAR SEASON FINALE
Coach Ryan Brittle's team concluded regular season play with the doubleheader split. The Panthers now await word on a possible berth into the ODAC Baseball Tournament, to be contested May 8-22 on the campuses of higher seeded teams.
