THE BASICS
Josh Greenway got things started early for the Panthers as he was credited with a 2-RBI sacrafice fly, as Rufus Hurdle and Ozzie Torres came around to score in the top of the first, but Southern Viriginia would answer right back. The Knights would get three runs in the home half of the frame, as Brady Lamb doubled to left center, bringing Nate McCallum around to score. Tyler Callens would then cap the inning off with a single to center, scoring Lamb and McCallum.
The game would remain 3-2 in favor of Southern Virginia up until the fourth frame, as the Panthers would re-take the lead after scratching two runs across in the inning. Clayton Michael's single to left field brought Grey Sherfey around to score and Jacob Brady would eventually come around to score as Darden Eure-Parrish reached on a fielder's choice.
The Panthers would then put it out of reach in the eighth, taking a four-run lead with a 3-spot in the frame. Michael came up big again in the eighth with a two-bagger to right center, scoring Issac Yeaman. Michael would later score in the inning as Eure-Parrish legged out an infield single. Eure-Parrish was the last Panther to score in the inning, as Torres' single to left field brought him around.
The Knights tried their hand at a comeback, but would ultimately be held at bay by the Ferrum bullpen. A two-run Cole Campanile single in the eighth would make it a 7-5 ball game, but that would be as close as the Knights would get. Ethan Westgate inherited some traffic on the basepaths in the home-half of the ninth, but work his way out of it by stranding the bases loaded after getting Lamb to strikeout looking.
