FERRUM, Virginia -- Interim Director of Athletics Dr. Mirta Martin has announced the hiring of Bailey Roberts as Assistant Softball Coach. Roberts will work with first-year Head Softball Coach Josh Freeman.

Roberts played four years at Christopher Newport University and earned All-Conference, All-Region, and All-Super Regional. She played on the Captains' 2022 NCAA Division III national championship team that posted a 47-1 final record. She earned top honors as the 2022 NCAA National Championship Tournament MVP. She was a four year starter at Christopher Newport, playing third base and catcher, with a .361 batting career average over the four years.

A native of Chesapeake, Virginia, Roberts graduated from Hickory High School, where she earned All-Conference, All-Region, All-State and the Virginia High School League (VHSL) 5A State Player of the Year honors her senior year. Roberts holds the Hickory career home runs record (20) and established a new single-season South Hampton Roads record for home runs (14) during her senior year.

Roberts was a psychology major at Christopher Newport and graduated in 2022. She helped coach for a 10U travel team and coached for one season as the head coach of the Hickory High School junior varsity team.
