Ferrum's 2023-24 ODAC All-Academic Team
FERRUM, Virginia -- The 2023-24 Old Domuinion Athleteic Conference (ODAC) All-Academic Team has been announced and Ferrum College had a new school record 203 student-athletes included. Ferrum's previous record was 190 athletes on the ODAC All-Academic Team, set in 2020-21.
The ODAC's level of academic achievement reached new heights this season with the announcement that for the first time in league history, more than 3,000 student-athletes garner recognition for their prowess in the classroom. Ferrum is one of 11 conference schools with record numbers, helping the ODAC All-Academic Team boast a total of 3,175 honorees, far surpassing the previous benchmark of 2,871 scholastic standouts set just last season. This marks the sixth straight year and seventh of the last eight that the ODAC's overall total has eclipsed 2,000 honorees.
Eligibility for the ODAC All-Academic Team is open to any student-athlete that competes in a conference-sponsored sport, regardless of academic class. Prospective honorees must achieve at least a 3.25 grade point average for the academic year to be considered for ODAC All-Academic Team recognition.
Ferrum is one of seven schools that eclipsed the 200+ mark, including Washington and Lee University (537), Shenandoah University (329) and University of Lynchburg (322). This year marks the first time that three ODAC schools showcased more than 300 members of distinction in one season. Also hitting the 200+ mark this year are Roanoke College (290), Bridgewater College (269), Randolph-Macon College (260) and Ferrum (203).
Leading the charge for the Panthers was the football team with 43 players honored, while baseball had 32 players honored. Also boasting double digit honorees were women's soccer (22), men's soccer (20), softball (16), women's basketball (10), men's track & field (10 and wrestling (10). The 2023-23 school year was Ferrum's sixth year of competition in the ODAC, having joined the league in July of 2018.
