BASICS
Freshman Alaia Beckwith opened Ferrum's scoring with a first-quarter free-position goal to tie the contest at 1-1 midway through the opening frame. Mars Hill responded with a late first-quarter score and used a four-goal second period to build a 6-1 halftime advantage.
The Lions added five goals in the third quarter to extend the lead before Sophomore Caroline Kelley found the back of the net in the fourth quarter off an assist from Freshman Noelle LaCharite with 1:34 remaining in regulation.
Beckwith and Kelley accounted for Ferrum's two goals, while LaCharite recorded the Panthers' lone assist. Lana Barkovic controlled the midfield with a team-high four draw controls. Kaylee Styers added four ground balls defensively, and goalkeeper Ashley Font logged all 60 minutes in net with two saves.
