GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Ferrum College men's tennis team opened the 2010 season with a 9-0 loss to Emory & Henry College Feb. 21 in Greensboro, North Carolina. The non-conference match was played at a neutral site, Greensboro College.
Emory & Henry jumped out to a 3-0 lead after sweeping the doubles portion of the match.
Christopher Miller and
John Hartin fell 9-8 to Chip Wintringham and Matt Nelson at #1 doubles, dropping the tiebreaker 7-1.
Bob Dill and
Darren Agee fell 8-3 to Ethan Brooks and Adam Henderson at #2 doubles.
Matt Mellone and
Daniel Grubb lost 8-6 to Mike Rogers and Hunter Romano at #3 doubles.
Miller was behind 6-2, 2-0 before injury defaulting to Wintringham at #1 singles. Hartin fell 6-0, 6-2 to Nelson at #2, and Dill fell 6-1, 6-2 to Rogers at #3.
Mellone fell 6-3, 6-4 to Brooks at #4 singles, Agee lost 6-1, 6-3 to Henderson at #5, and
Jay Dotson lost 6-4, 6-2 to Brian Butler at #6.
Ferrum (0-1) is scheduled to play next when it hosts Bridgewater College Tuesday, Feb. 23. The non-conference match is set to begin at 3 p.m. if court conditions allow for the match to be played.
