FERRUM, Va. -- Guilford College took all three doubles matches, then swept the singles portion to earn a 9-0 non-conference men's tennis win over Ferrum College this afternoon at the Burrows-Skeens Tennis Courts.
Christopher Miller and
Joseph Jensen dropped a tight 8-6 match at #1 doubles to Tyler Mercier and Clayton Hamilton. Miller would later lose 6-2, 6-0 to Mercier at #1 singles. Jensen went on to drop his #3 singles match in three sets to Trevor Cox 6-7 (7-3), 6-0, 10-5.
Darren Agee and
Cain Walter battled well at #2 doubles but came up short to Ben Nelson and Jody Cox, losing 8-4. Agee would later lose to Hamilton 6-3, 6-2 at #2 singles. Walter dropped a three-set match to Charlie Smith 6-7 (9-7), 6-3, 10-5 at #4 singles.
Michael March and
Tyler Lee fell 8-1 to Trevor Cox and Brandon Johnson at #3 doubles. Marsh then fell 6-3, 6-4 to Guilford's Mark Cheong.
Andrew Maxwell dropped his match at #6 singles to Nelson 6-1, 6-2. Guilford improves to 4-1 with the win.
Ferrum (3-2) will be idle the next 12 days, returning to action March 12 at home against Randolph-Macon College. The non-conference match gets underway at 1 p.m. on campus.
