FERRUM, Va. -- Visiting Methodist University handed Ferrum College an 8-1 loss in USA South Athletic Conference men's tennis action March 26 at the Burrows-Skeens Tennis Complex.
Christopher Miller and
Connor Moncure won a tiebreak thriller at #1 doubles to post the Panthers' lone victory.
Ferrum trailed 2-0 after losing at #2 and #3 doubles when Miller and Moncure knotted their #1 doubles match at 8-8 against Lawrence Salmon and Dillon Sullivan. The Ferrum duo pulled out the tiebreak with a 7-3 score, trimming Methodist's lead to 2-1 heading into singles play.
The Monarchs (13-0, 4-0 USA South) proceeded to sweep all six singles matches in straight sets to earn the 8-1 team win and remain unbeaten this season. Miller fell 6-3, 6-3 to Methodist's Duncan Miller at #1 singles, and
Taylor Napier fell 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 to Ryan Howard at #4 singles.
Ferrum (2-8, 2-4 USA South) returns to action Wednesday, March 27, at home against Greensboro College. The USA South matchup is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. and will include a doubleheader with Ferrum's women. The match was originally scheduled for March 17, but rain forced it to be postponed.
