Tennis Splits USA South Matches at Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Ferrum College tennis teams split a USA South Athletic Conference doubleheader on the road this afternoon, with the Panther women romping 9-0 and the men falling 5-4 at Grimsley High School. It was the third win in as many matches for the Ferrum women.

RECORDS
Ferrum women (3-4, 2-0 USA South)
Greensboro women (1-1, 0-1 USA South)
Ferrum men (0-5, 0-2 USA South)
Greensboro men (1-1, 1-0 USA South)

THE BASICS
In the women's match, the Panthers jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles, then swept all singles matches, five in straight sets. Morgan Scott had to battle through a third set to win in the #1 singles spot. Also winning in singles were Alexandria White, Alexandria Dixon, Autum Murray-Burns, Jordan Thompson and Hailee Green at #2-6, respectively. Thomas Wallace was a double winner for the Panther men, winning with doubles partner Colin Ross in the #3 spot before claiming a win at #6 singles. Also winning in singles were Sam May at #3 and Matt Poirier at #5.

COACH'S THOUGHTS
"I'm very proud of the effort our men put out tonight," said Coach Rod Baker. "They had to fight through intense wind and cold temperatures, both teams had to battle the elements just as much as their opponents. And the women worked hard to keep their win streak alive. Everyone played very well, with Morgan having to win her #1 singles match in a third set tiebreak for the second day in a row."

BACK ON COURT
Baker's women return to action Saturday, March 17, at Salem College. The USA South match gets underway at 1:00 p.m. in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Both Panther teams will then host Guilford College in non-conference play Sunday, March 18, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
