FERRUM, Va. – Ferrum College Vice President for Athletics Cleive Adams has announced the promotion of James Morgan to Head Men's Soccer Coach. Morgan succeeds Matt Cureton, who stepped down after five seasons to be closer to family.

Morgan first joined the Ferrum athletics staff as Assistant Men's Soccer Coach in March 2022 and was promoted to Associate Head Coach in October 2023.

"James has demonstrated an unwavering passion for our student-athletes, a tireless work ethic, and an exceptional understanding of the technical and tactical aspects of the game. His ability to teach, develop, and implement a dynamic style of play, combined with his proven success as a recruiter, positions him to lead our program into an exciting new chapter. His vision for the future provides tremendous continuity while creating new opportunities for the continued growth of our program."
 
Morgan came to Ferrum from Newcastle United Foundation, where he served as a community coach. He previously worked with Global Premier Soccer as Coach and Director of Youth Development in Rock Hill, South Carolina, and Morehead City, North Carolina. Morgan holds F and D License certifications from the U.S. Soccer Federation, as well as Human Kinetics Coaching Principles Fourth Edition Certification and FA Level 2 qualification.
 
A former player with Newcastle United Football Club, Morgan competed internationally during his time with the club, playing in France, Northern Ireland, Singapore, Italy, and England. He later played four seasons at Lees-McRae College, an NCAA Division II program and fellow Conference Carolinas member institution. Morgan earned All-Conference honors three times with the Bobcats and was named Academic All-Conference twice by Conference Carolinas.

Morgan earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Administration with a minor in Athletic Coaching from Lees-McRae in 2018.
