Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Ferrum, 1967-70 * 67-14 record (.827) * led Ferrum to 1968 conference championship * reached NJCAA men’s basketball national semifinals in 1970 * Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Marshall University, 1970-72 * Led Marshall to a 23-4 record in 1972, Thundering Herd advanced to the NCAA Division I Tournament * One of 10 finalists for the National Coach of the Year Award, eventually won by UCLA’s John Wooden * Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Wake Forest University, 1972-85 * 222-149 record (.598) * Demon Deacons played in seven post-season tournaments, including twice reaching the NCAA Tournament’s Final Eight * WFU averaged 21 wins during Tacy’s last five years as head coach, and reached NCAA Tournament in 1972, 1977, 1981, 1982 and 1984… In 1981, WFU was ranked 9th in final AP and UPI polls, and Tacy named District Three Coach of the year, Tacy third in National Coach of the Year voting * In 1982, team finished with #11 ranking * In 1984, team finished ranked 8th * Wake Forest participated in NIT Tournament in 1984 & 1985 * Career coaching record: 449-231 * Led Pulaski High School to Virginia State Championship in 1962 * Hall of Fame Inductee at Wake Forest Sports, Davis & Elkins College, Randolph County (WV) * Member of President’s Club, Lees-McRae College * Member of study commission for the North Carolina Baptist Children’s Home * Radford University Outstanding Alumnus Award …Served as Deacon at First Baptist Churches in Winston-Salem and Waynesboro * Member Lion’s Club and Civitan Club in Winston-Salem * Member Gideons International
