Joe Davis was a member of the Athletic Council while attending Ferrum and served as a manger and trainer for the Ferrum College baseball, basketball and football teams. He returned to Ferrum College as head men’s basketball coach in 1975 and led the Panthers to back-to-back Cavalier-Tar Heel Conference Championships in 1976 and 1977. He was named Cavalier-Tar Heel Coach of the Year in 1976 and 1977. He led the Ferrum College Basketball team to a national ranking of 11th and an overall record of 42 wins and 15 losses during his tenure. He received a bachelor’s of science degree in physical education from Virginia Commonwealth University and a master’s degree in guidance from Radford University. He began his coaching career in 1966 at Glenvar High School and has amassed a career record of 400 wins. He has earned six Coach of the Year and currently serves as Head Men’s Basketball Coach, Assistant Athletic Director, Head Golf Coach and Assistant Professor in the Department of Health, Movement Science and Recreation at Lynchburg College.Â
