Four-sport standout at Ferrum in tennis, basketball, field hockey and swimming. Continued career in tennis, volleyball, and basketball at East Tennessee State University. Number-one singles tennis player four years at both Ferrum and ETSU. Competed in more than 100 singles, doubles, and mixed doubles tournaments after college. Took up distance running in the mid-1980s and has competed in more than 150 road races, including biathlons, triathlons, and the Marine Corps Marathon. Currently a health and physical education teacher with the Roanoke City school system.
