Was one of first players recruited by Coach Hank Norton and a member of Norton’s first two Panther football teams in 1960 and 1961, which went a combined 10-1-4. Received a full football scholarship to George Washington University and earned a master’s degree in education from Lynchburg College. Has worked as a teacher and football coach for more than 30 years and has been a basketball official and baseball umpire for 22 years. Named head football coach at E.C. Glass High School in Lynchburg in 1979. Ranked third among active high school coaches in Virginia with a 134-52-5 career record. Was named Virginia Coach of the Year in 1988. During his tenure, the Hilltoppers have won one state championship (1988), twice been state runners-up, won five Northwest Region Championships, and nine Western District Championships.
