Two-year player for Ferrum’s baseball and basketball teams, both under Coach Gene Evans  ?  Most Valuable Player for the 1959 baseball season  ?  Served as Chaplain of the Varsity Club for 1959-1960  ?  Transferred to Richmond Professional Institute (RPI), today known as Virginia Commonwealth University after graduating from Ferrum  ?  Continued athletic career as a starter for the RPI baseball team and graduated in 1963 with a Bachelor of Science in Social Sciences with Virginia State Teaching Certification ? Later earned Master of Education degree from VCU in 1983   ?  After graduation from RPI, enlisted in the U.S. Army and served 6 months of active duty and 6 years in the U.S. Army Reserves  ?  Following his military service, went to work for eight years at E. R. Carpenter Co. in Richmond, Virginia ?  Spent the next 31 years in public education in Northumberland County Public Schools ?  Taught, coached and served as co-athletic director at Northumberland High School in Heathsville, Virginia  ?  Coached baseball for 21 years with 150 wins  ?  Took Northumberland baseball team to state tournament in 1987  ?  Northern Neck District Coach of the Year in 1987 and 1988  ?  Coached basketball for 25 years, five years JV and 20 varsity coach at Northumberland with 276 wins, teams played for Group A championships in 1983 and 1996, state runner-up in 1983 state champions in 1996  ?  Northern Neck District Basketball Coach of the Year in 1982-83, 1984-85 and 1995-96  ?  One of three coaches chosen for the Virginia High School League East All Stars basketball team in 1983 and 1996  ?  Official Board 90- Coach of the Year for Group A in 1982-83  ?  VHSL Regional Award of Merit in 2001  ?  Northern Neck Wall of Fame in 2001  ?  Married to Virginia Mae, for 51 years and have two children, Scott and Chris (Kim) plus four grandchildren  ?  Since retirement, remains busy with family, church, farming, involvement in the community and playing golf  ?  Member of Bethany Baptist Church, where he has served as a deacon, chairman of deacons, usher and a member of various committees  ?  Also volunteers with the Northern Neck Food Bank, charter member for the Northumberland Little League, member of the community committee which created the Northern Neck Wall of Fame  ?
