Paul played football and participated in track while attending Ferrum College. He was a member of the undefeated 1971 Coastal Conference Championship football team. He graduated from Ferrum College with an associate of science degree. He was named to the 1st Team Region Ten NJCAA in 1971 and 1972 for shot put as a member of the Ferrum College track team. He was conference shot put champion, ranked fourth in the state of Virginia and set both school and Region Ten records in 1971. He continued his education and participation in football and track at the University of Richmond and Elon College. He played professional football for the Birmingham Vulcans in the World Football League in 1975 and the Ottawa Rough Riders in the Canadian Football League in 1976. He began his coaching career in 1975 at Lake Highland Preparatory School. He earned Region Six Coach of the Year honors in 1994 for football and Coach of the Year Metro Conference 1988-1992 for weightlifting. He received the 1990 Orange County Public Schools Innovative Teacher Award. He serves Pine Castle Church as a Sunday school teacher and nursery volunteer. He is actively involved in the Orlando community as a member of the Jaycees, South Orlando Community Center and as volunteer director for the State of Florida Weightlifting Meets. Paul is currently a teacher and coach for William R. Boone High School in the Orange County Public School System.
