Played baseball at Ferrum in 1962 (Team Captain) … went on to earn bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1965 and 1978 … taught and coached at Varina High School from 1964-78, Appomattox High School from 1978-94 and Fuqua School from 1994-2001 … also served as Athletic Director at Fuqua , where he developed “Coaches Handbook” for all sports and wrote health and fitness curriculum for grades 6-10 … varsity baseball coaching record 377-167 … led Varina to three district titles and was Battlefield District Coach of the Year three times … led Appomattox to four District and three regional titles, and was Seminole District Coach of the Year four times … led Fuqua to a pair of Little League titles, earning Little league Coach of the year twice … six former players went on to play professional baseball, including Keith Mayhew, a Ferrum three-time All-American and Alumni Sports Hall of Famer … Virginia High School League Milestone Awards for 200 and 300 career wins … 1989 National High School Coaching Award from Scholastic Coach Magazine … named to Appomattox High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2002 and Varina Sports Hall of Fame in 2004 … currently serving on Appomattox High School Sports Hall of Fame selection committee … active substitute teacher for Health & PE at Appomattox … serves at Appomattox County election polls.
