Ferrum’s leading pitcher while playing Panther baseball. Received the Christenbury Award, East Carolina University’s highest student-athlete honor. Played with Kansas City Royals from 1971 to 1977 before returning to ECU as assistant coach. Became head coach at East Carolina in 1980 and led the team to threes consecutive league championships and NCAA tourney berths. Became head coach at Auburn University in 1985. Guided the Tigers to nine straight years of post-season play while winning 30 or more games each season. Named NCAA Regional Coach of the Year after taking Auburn to a berth in the 1994 College World Series.
