Gary Gilmore was a starter one season for the Ferrum baseball team. He transferred to Coastal Carolina, where he played two years for the Chanticleers, earning NAIA All America honors. He served as Assistant Baseball Coach at USC Aiken from 1986-89, then Head Baseball Coach at USC Aiken from 1990-95, leading his team to the 1991 NAIA World Series and wining two Peach Belt baseball titles. Gilmore was twice named South Atlantic Coach of the Year. He was named Head Baseball Coach at Coastal Carolina in 1996, and has taken his team to NCAA Division I Regionals 12 times, along with two Super Regionals. His CCU teams have won 10 Big South regular season titles and nine Big South Tournament Championships. Nine Coastal players have been finalists for National Player of the Year, and he has coached 49 All-Americans and eight Freshman All-Americans. Under Gilmore's guidance, Coastal Carolina is the only Big South school to win 50 games (a feat accomplished four times). His 2010 team lead the country in wins (55) and a winning percentage (.846). Gilmore is listed as one of the top 50 All-Time Winningest NCAA Division I Coaches.
