Tommy Bell was a former student athletic trainer at Ferrum for football, basketball and baseball. He began working in Professional Baseball after graduation at Ferrum in 1976 until 1987 with the Philadelphia Phillies organization. When Bell graduated from Ferrum, he transferred to Virginia Tech, where earned his bachelor's degree in physical education, then went on to Radford University and earned a master's degree in health & physical education. Bell served as Head Athletic Trainer at Radford 1980-84, then was Athletic Trainer with Portland Beavers 1984-87. He was Director of Institutional Advancement at Southern Illinois University 2001-07, Director of Athletics Recreation and Intramurals at Indiana University-Perdue University Fort Wayne 2007-13, and Director of Athletics at Western Illinois University 2013-15. In May 2015, Bell was named Director of Athletics at Southern Illinois.
